Radar Market $50B from 2007-2016
Market analyst firm Forecast International projects that the worldwide radar market will be worth $50 billion from 2007-2016, with at least 11.306 units produced. "The Market for Radar Systems," is based on a review of 107 radar production, operations & maintenance, and RDT&E programs.
One trend noted in the report is the consolidation of platforms into single radars that can perform multiple tasks, while operating close to the enemy and in urban areas. Another is the growth of the airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) market, thanks to smaller radars like the MESA radar (E-737), Saab's Erieye (EMB-145, S-100), and IAI's EL/M-2075 Phalcon (Gulfstream 450) that can be mounted on smaller aircraft. A third is the growth of Active Electronically Scanned Arrays. These radars boast a number of important multi-tasking, performance, maintainability, upgradeability, and capability advantages over traditional mechanically-steered radars. While more mechanically-scanned arrays will be produced, AESA radars will catch up in terms of overall value, and will become increasingly important.
Raytheon and Northrop Grumman are expected to continue to top the top 5, but consortia like AGS Industries creating the TCAR radar in NATO's new ground surveillance planes; the MEADS International anti-air missile project; and the Euroradar consortium are beginning to appear on the leader board.

11/15/2007 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- After 44 years of service and more than 29,500 flying hours, a C-130 Hercules flew its final combat mission Nov. 13 from Southwest Asia and will next be heading to the boneyard.
Aircraft 63-7865 from the 86th Airlift Wing at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, and currently assigned to the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing here, transported servicemembers and cargo between bases in the region before landing after its final combat sortie.
Aircraft 63-7865 will soon be flown back to Ramstein AB and then to the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center, also known as the "Boneyard," located near Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz.

China to Re-Export Russian Jet Engine
The Russian Federal Military Technology Cooperation Service has permitted China to re-export Russian RD-93 fighter jet engines as part of FC-1 Chinese-Pakistani planes to six countries, including Algeria, which, until now, has only bought Russian jets. Besides Pakistan and Algeria, the countries that will receive the planes are Egypt, Nigeria, Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia.
The presence of Algeria on the lost was unexpected. It is the third-largest buyer of Russian military hardware and has only purchased coast guard boats and Kalashnikov plants from China so far. Russia signed a contract with Algeria in March 2006 for the delivery of 28 MiG-29SMT and 6 MiG-29UB planes. However, the Algerian government complained about the quality of the planes immediately after the first deliveries. Russia offered to replace two of the planes, which were manufactured by the Sokol plant in Nizhny Novgorod after Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika wrote to Russian President Vladimir Putin, but Algeria did not respond to that suggestion. Observers say that the country's interest in the FC-1 may be due to its disappointment with the MiGs, although the FC-1 is much less militarily effective.
The FC-1 (known as the JF-17 in Pakistan) is the first Chinese multifunctional fighter jet created for the foreign market. Design of the aircraft began in the early 1990s by Chengdu Aircraft Industry. Pakistan paid for about half of the design costs ($75 million). The Russian RD-93 engines for it were designed by the Klimov company and are manufactured by Chernyshev Moscow Heavy Machinery Enterprise. Rosoboronexport struck a $238-million deal for the first 100 engines for the craft in 2005.
Pakistan is the only country that has signed a for the purchase of the aircraft so far. Besides the countries that plan to sign contracts, Lebanon, Burma, Iran and Sri Lanka have expressed interest in it.

Франция най-накрая направи първата твърда поръчка за 12 плюс опция за 56 вертолета NH90 в тяхната тактическа транспортна версия.
Принципно френчитата планират един ден да заменят всичките си Пуми и Кугъри с тази машина.
France Orders 68 NH90 for its Army Aviation

AIX EN PROVENCE, France --- The French DGA (Délégation Générale pour l’Armement) has today ordered 68 new generation NH90 TTH helicopters for the French Army Aviation (ALAT).
The contract signed between NAHEMA (NATO Helicopter Management Agency), on behalf of French DGA, and NHIndustries includes a first firm order of 12 NH90 with 56 additional options.
“NHI is very proud that the French DGA reaffirms its confidence towards this new generation helicopter, after the previous contract for 27 NH90 NFH ordered in June 2000 to equip the French Navy,” declared Mrs Gala Gonçalves, the NHIndustries General Manager.
The French NH90 TTH (Tactical Transport Helicopter) variant is a helicopter of 10 Ton class primarily configured to perform tactical transport missions in all environments by day and night. The NH90 TTH flexibility allows its users to perform additional missions such as internal/external load transport, heliborne operations, Search And Rescue, Casualties evacuation and Training missions.
The NH90 TTH is the most modern helicopter of its class available on the market. It features a high level of system integration built around a dual bus Core Avionic System, full glass cockpit with Multifunction Displays, Fly-by-wire controls with 4-axis Automatic Flight Control. The dedicated Mission System includes among others: piloting forward looking infrared system, helmet mounted sight and display, electronic warfare system, tactical control and tactical communication system, weather radar, digital map generator and an on-board monitoring and diagnostic system.
It features a fully composite crashworthy fuselage fitted with a rear ramp which allows the transport of a light tactical vehicle. The two Rolls-Royce/Turbomeca RTM322 modern engines provide power reserve in all environments. The NH90 helicopter has provision for a number of role equipment to enable mission flexibility and effectiveness coupled with a high level of safety and survivability.
The twin-engine, medium-size NH90 helicopter program is managed by the consortium NHIndustries, the Company owned by AgustaWestland (32%), Eurocopter (62.5%), and Stork Fokker (5.5%).
The NH90 helicopter programme is the largest ever launched in Europe, with firm orders now reaching 507 units for 19 Armed Forces of 14 Nations: France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Greece, Oman, Australia, New-Zealand, Spain and Belgium.

(US Navy photo)WASHINGTON --- The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of a possible Foreign Military Sale to the United Arab Emirates of upgrades and refurbishments of E-2C aircraft as well as associated equipment and services.
The total value, if all options are exercised, could be as high as $437 million.

The Government of the United Arab Emirates has requested a possible sale of upgrades and refurbishment for three (3) used, excess defense articles (EDA) E-2C Airborne Early Warning (AEW) aircraft with radar and antennae.
These upgrades/refurbishments include E-2C Group II Navigation Upgrade configuration, eight T56-A-427 Turbo Shaft engines, Phased Maintenance Inspection, spare and repairs parts, support equipment, personnel training and training equipment, technical data and publications, tactical software and software laboratory, system software development and installation, testing of new system modifications, U.S. Government and contractor technical and logistics personnel services, and other related support elements. The estimated cost is $437 million.
This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country, which has been and continues to be an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.
The United Arab Emirates needs the E-2C aircraft to develop an effective air defense network for its naval forces and to provide an Airborne Early Warning (AEW) surveillance and enhanced command, control, and communications capability.
The proposed sale of the upgrades and refurbishments will strengthen the effectiveness and interoperability of a potential coalition partner, reduce the dependence on U.S. forces in the region and enhance any coalition operations the U.S. may undertake. The United Arab Emirates will have no difficulty absorbing these aircraft into its armed forces. The proposed sale of these weapon systems will not affect the basic military balance in the region.
The prime contractor will be Northrop Grumman Aircraft Corporation of Bethpage, New York. The purchaser requested offsets; however, at this time, agreements are undetermined but will be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and contractor.
Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government and contractor representatives to the United Arab Emirates.
There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.
This notice of a potential sale is required by law; it does not mean that the sale has been concluded.

Първите два алжирски Су-30МКА са пристигнали на 25 декември с Русланче. Ще бъдат облетяни януари месец и сдадени на Алжирските ВВС официално. Тук ми прави впечатление, че всичките 28 (?) Су-30
ще бъдат доставени догодина...?

В Иркутския авиозавод преимина предварителното приемане на поредната партида изтребители Су-30МКМ за ВВС на Малайзия.
Договорът за доставка на 18 самолета е сключен през 2003 г. Първите доставки започнаха през юни 2007 г. - включваха шест самолета, превозени в частично разглобен вид с транспортен самолет Ан-124. След пристигане в Малайзия са сглобени от заводски бригади, облетени от заводски пилоти и чак след това са окончателно предадени на малайзийската страна.
Новата партида от четири самолета ще бъде доставена в Малайзия през януари, а третата партида от 8 машини ще пристигне до края на 2008 г.

Едва ли за някой е тайна, че американското командване за специални операции използва Пилатус PC-12 под името U-28A.
Ето сега отдолу имаме пресрелийз за приемането на въоръжение на самолета в още едно авиокрило за специални операции. По-интересното е да се видим чистичкия и културен Пилатус, който са показали на журналистите...
Явно после камуфлажират самолета и му слагат всичкото специално оборудване...

1/9/2008 - CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Cannon Air Force Base reached another milestone in its transition to its special operations mission Jan. 8 with the arrival of a new aircraft.
The PC-12 was delivered to the 27th Special Operations Wing and will be flown by the 318th Special Operations Squadron when it activates in March.
The aircraft, selected for its versatile performance characteristics and ability to operate from short and unimproved runway surfaces, will provide battlefield mobility for special operations forces in theaters throughout the world except the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. Currently, these types of missions are conducted by government contract airlines, which can be more expensive than using military aircraft, said Air Force Special Operations Command officials.
The aircraft that arrived Jan. 8 is the first of three PC-12s scheduled for delivery to the 27th SOW this year.
"We're excited to take the first delivery of this aircraft," said Col. Tim Leahy, 27th SOW commander. "And we're excited to bring a new mission to Cannon Air Force Base."
A total of 10 PC-12s are planned for purchased over the next four years.

MARIETTA, Ga. --- Lockheed Martin has signed a contract with the Government of Canada valued at $1.4 billion for the purchase of 17 C-130J Super Hercules airlifters and related equipment and services.

"We are extremely proud that the C-130J has been selected as Canada's next tactical airlifter. The Super Hercules will be the new workhorse of the Canadian Forces," said Jim Grant, Lockheed Martin vice president for Air Mobility and Special Operations Forces business development. "The C-130J is a proven, available, rugged aircraft capable of performing a full spectrum of tactical airlift missions in demanding environments."
The Canadian Forces' new Super Hercules will be the longer fuselage or "stretched" variant of the C-130J, similar to those being delivered to the U.S. Air Force. Deliveries to Canada will begin in 2010. Canada joins the growing number of nations with C-130J fleets. Allied operators include the United States, Australia, Demark, Italy, Norway and the United Kingdom.
"This contract begins the process for working with Canadian industry to establish a 20-year In-Service Support (ISS) program for the new fleet," said Grant. Under the terms of the agreement, Lockheed Martin is required to conduct a series of competitions to select the Canadian companies that will make up the ISS capability in Canada. "We look forward to utilizing this acquisition to further strengthen our relationship with Canada. This program represents an outstanding opportunity to grow the capabilities and expertise of the Canadian aerospace industry," Grant said.
The new C-130J generates much greater operational efficiency than the older C-130s, such as Canada's E and H model, by flying farther, faster, with more payload and higher reliability. Additionally, the C-130J only requires three crew members for most missions so fewer flight crew members are exposed to potential threats in-theatre. C-130Js are currently deployed in several theatres and are operating at a very high tempo efficiently and reliably. C-130Js are being used daily for troop and equipment re-supply via ground delivery and airdrop, for air-to-air refueling, ground refueling and humanitarian relief.
Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs over 140,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2006 sales of $39.6 billion.

В сряда първият си полет е направил първият Eurofighter от Tranche 2. Самолетът е едноместна немска машина и ще послужи за сертификация на машините от Блок 8.

The aircraft, a German single seat variant, represents the full Tranche 2 build standard and its first prominent task will be to accomplish Type Acceptance for Block 8, the first capability standard of Tranche 2, in April 2008. This work will be carried out together with the BAE Systems-operated IPA6 based at Warton. IPA6 (BS031) is essentially a Tranche 1 standard aircraft but utilises the full Tranche 2 mission computer suite and avionics features. The first series of EJ200 engine flight testing for Tranche 2 was successfully concluded at the end of November with IPA2 in Italy.
The significant Tranche 2 capabilities focus mainly on the new mission computers which deliver the higher processing and memory capacity required for the integration of future weapons such as Meteor, Storm Shadow and Taurus. Differences in the build standard to Tranche 1 are related to changes in production technology or obsolescence.
Based on the Tranche 2 production contract, signed on 14 December 2004, and the original export contract with Austria, the Eurofighter consortium will deliver 251 Tranche 2 weapon systems: 93 to the United Kingdom, 75 to Germany, 48 to Italy and 35 to Spain. The difference to the original figure of 236 is based on the delivery of 15 Tranche 1 aircraft to Austria, for which the nations receive aircraft originally ordered by Austria in Tranche 2. Deliveries of Tranche 2 Eurofighter Typhoons to all four Partner Nations will begin in Summer 2008 and are scheduled to run until 2013. 32 aircraft are already in final assembly at the partner companies Alenia Aeronautica, BAE Systems, EADS CASA and EADS Deutschland.

Та по-долу е казано: Чадски бунтовници свалят судански боен вертолет Ми-24 (предполагам нов - имаше доставки в последните 2-3 години), с раакета САМ-7 (Стрела-2М"). Станало е на границата между Судан и Чад, в размирния судански регион Дарфур. Вертолетът е атакувал позиции на чадските бунтовници.
Chad Rebels Say Destroyed Army Helicopter Gunship

N'DJAMENA (Reuters) - Chad's rebels said on Saturday they had shot down an army helicopter gunship which attacked their positions in the east of the landlocked central African country, near the border with Sudan's Darfur region.
The rebel Alliance for National Resistance (ANR), one of several groups of insurgents operating along the Sudanese border, said in a statement it had destroyed the Russian-made MI-24 helicopter near the village of Beda this week using a SAM-7 short-range, ground-to-air missile.
A spokesman for President Idriss Deby's government was not immediately available for comment.
The rebels said Chadian army helicopters had not taken to the skies since then, eliminating one of the government's main tactical advantages.
Deby, who seized power in a 1990 uprising from eastern Chad, blames Khartoum for supporting and sheltering the rebels who have fought a cat-and-mouse war against his forces for years.
Tensions flared earlier this month when Sudan accused Chadian aircraft of bombing a village within its borders.
Chad's government said it had attacked rebels, but did not specify if they were inside Sudan. It reserved the right to pursue the insurgents if they sheltered on Sudanese soil.
Eastern Chad is home to hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing the four-year-old conflict in Darfur, as well as large numbers of internally displaced Chadians.
A European Union peacekeeping force is due to deploy in eastern Chad next month with a mandate to protect civilians. Rebels have warned they could attack the force if it meddles in Chad's internal political situation.

Eurofighter-a e налетял общо над 35 000 часа. Към края на 2007 г. е имало 135 бойни самолети в частите и седем изпитателни машини. Около 50% от този нальот е изпълнен през миналата година.

Hallbergmoos – The combined fleet of 135 in-service Eurofighter Typhoons and seven Flight Test aircraft has accumulated over 35,000 flying hours by the end of December 2007. Since introduction into service in Spring 2004, the five customer Air Forces, including, since Summer 2007, Austria have achieved 30,650 flying hours. An amazing 50 % of this amount were flown in 2007, demonstrating the tremendous growth of the in-service fleet.
The build up of flying hours in the Nations’ Air Forces reflects the success of integrating the weapon system into their Armed Forces and, increasingly, highlights the importance of Eurofighter Typhoon for NATO air defence responsibilities. Following Italy and the United Kingdom, Germany has, from the beginning of 2008, commenced Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) operations with Eurofighter Typhoon at Neuburg. Spain is to follow soon.
With the six Development Aircraft retired following conclusion of their scheduled tasks, the test fleet of seven Instrumented Production Aircraft (IPA) and one Instrumented Series Production Aircraft (ISPA, BT005 of the Royal Air Force) are now the main assets to take the weapon system’s capabilities to new frontiers. The latest addition, IPA7, is the first Tranche 2 Eurofighter Typhoon and will be flown alongside IPA6 in the test programme to achieve the clearances for Tranche 2 Type Acceptance and Further Enhancements. This means even more capabilities for Eurofighter Typhoon with more benefit to the customer. The test fleet has accumulated over 5,600 flying hours since Development began.
